About American Legion Post 58
American Legion Post 58 brings veterans, families, and neighbors together in Fountain Hills, Arizona through fellowship, advocacy, remembrance, and practical service.
The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, service members and communities, the Legion currently has about 2.4 million members in 14,000 posts worldwide. These posts are organized into 55 departments: one each for the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines.
The American Legion’s national headquarters is in Indianapolis, with an office in Washington, D.C. The national organization has a full-time staff of about 300 employees. The Legion has several standing national commissions and committees that work with department, district and post leadership to develop programs, increase membership and recruit volunteers. Associated organizations are the American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion. Over the years, The American Legion has founded many programs for children and youth, including American Legion Baseball and Boys Nation.
American Legion Post 58 — officially known as the Azal Post — was chartered to serve the veterans and military families of Fountain Hills, Arizona and the surrounding communities of the northeast Valley. The Post takes its name from the Azal district, reflecting deep roots in the land and people of this corner of Maricopa County. From its earliest days, Post 58 has been a gathering place where those who served could find fellowship, support, and a shared sense of purpose.
Over the decades, Post 58 has grown alongside Fountain Hills itself. As the town developed from a planned community into a thriving city, the Post expanded its programs, its membership, and its presence at the heart of civic life. Members have marched in Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies, supported local schools through oratorical and scholarship programs, and stood alongside families during some of the most important moments of their lives.
Today, Post 58 is home to a full Legion Family — the Post itself, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion, and the American Legion Riders. Together these four organizations carry forward the same mission that has guided the Legion for more than a century: service to veterans, service to the community, and remembrance of those who gave everything. Whether you are a veteran, a family member, or a neighbor who simply wants to give back, there is a place for you at Post 58.

Building lasting connection among generations of the Legion family.
Youth and community
Post 58 believes that strong communities are built one young person at a time. Through scholarships, civic partnerships, and hands-on service projects, the Post works to inspire leadership, patriotism, and a spirit of giving back in the youth of Fountain Hills.
The Post's scholarship program awarded a combined $20,000 to four outstanding local high school students this year, helping them pursue their educational goals and honoring the Legion's long commitment to supporting the next generation.
Post 58 recently announced a new partnership with local Girl Scouts to create opportunities for community service and patriotic projects. The collaboration is designed to foster civic engagement and leadership among young people in Fountain Hills.
Through the American Legion's national Oratorical Contest and other youth programs, Post 58 gives local students a platform to develop public speaking skills, deepen their understanding of the Constitution, and compete for additional scholarship awards.
