American Legion Post 58 Polo Shirts

Fallen Soldier Memorial

Many of you may have already noticed the POW/MIA table and chair has been relocated in the bar area of the Post where it is far more visible. You may have also noticed a new stand with a pair of combat boots, weapon, dog tags, and helmet displayed next to it. This is the new Post 58 Fallen Soldier Memorial.

Its purpose is to show honor and respect for the dead at a battle site. This practice started during the American Civil War or maybe earlier, as a means of identifying the bodies on the battleground before they were removed. Today, it is an immediate means of showing respect for the dead among the still living members of the troop. It might be seen in the field or base camp after the battle in Afghanistan or Iraq. Used less today as a means to identify the dead but more as a private ceremony among those still living to mourn, because attending a funeral is not always possible, for soldiers still in the fight.

Post 58 would like to thank ALR’s Lee Norman, John Weedo, Neil Lyons, Dutch Gottschalk, and Robert Jaworski who developed the idea and saw it through to completion. The Memorial was dedicated on May 7, 2016.

New VA Clinic Opens in Northeast Valley

The Grand Opening for the Veterans Affairs Northeast Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) was held May 7, 2016. The clinic is located in the Ancala Medical Plaza in Scottsdale at 11390 E. Via Linda, Scottsdale. This location in Scottsdale will serve an estimated 3,000 veterans living in the Northeast Valley, agency officials said. The 6,880 square-foot space will offer primary-care, mental-health and laboratory services. Veterans who wish to transfer their care to this CBOC should call (602)277-5551, ext. 6550, or contact your VA Primary Care physician and ask to be transferred. A date for the clinic to begin seeing patients has not been announced but is expected to be in the next few weeks.

Legion of the Silver Rose

The current Legion of the Silver Rose was founded in 2011 and is administered by Chapter 24, American Legion Rider’s, Tombstone, AZ. The Legion of the Silver Rose was founded to call attention to, recognize, and honor Viet Nam War Veteran’s suffering from the effects of Agent Orange that were not allowed to be eligible to receive The Purple Heart. The Legion of the Silver Rose hopes to see every Viet Nam War Veteran exposed to Agent Orange given the honor and recognition they deserve. We are continuing that fine tradition on a daily basis and are reaching out in all directions so these deserving men and women and their families may be properly recognized. We are now reaching out to all of you to help advance our cause.

How can you help:

1.) Attend our Ceremonies and honor our Veterans.

2.) Locate Veterans suffering the effects of Agent Orange and assist them in becoming members of the Legion of the Silver Rose.

3.) Help support the Legion of the Silver Rose with a very generous tax deductible contribution.

These brave Veterans deserve recognition and we hope you will assist by joining us for future ceremonies and supporting this noble cause.
