About us
The American Legion is a patriotic veterans organization chartered by Congress in 1919. With 2.4 million members in 14,000 posts worldwide, it focuses on serving veterans, service members, and communities.
The organization has 55 departments, a national headquarters in Indianapolis, and a staff of 300. It has various commissions, committees, and associated organizations, such as the American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion. The Legion has established programs like American Legion Baseball and Boys Nation for children and youth.

The American Legion Magazine, a recognized leader among national general-interest publications, is published monthly by The American Legion for its 2.9 million members. Members automatically receive a year’s subscription with the payment of one year’s dues. These military-service veterans, working through 15,000 community-level Posts, dedicate themselves to God and country and traditional American values; a strong national defense; adequate and compassionate care for veterans, and their widows and orphans; community service; and the wholesome development of our nation’s youths.
